St. Eustatius, Wednesday, February 8 2023
On St. Eustatius, the royal party is received by government commissioner Alida Francis and they speak with authorities. During a walk through the historic center of Oranjestad, they meet several Statians who talk about their life on the island. During this walk, the slavery past is also discussed. The Royal Couple and the Princess of Orange will then join a debate with young people that will discuss the future of young people on the island.
After a lunch with various residents of Sint Eustatius, the King, Queen Máxima and the Princess of Orange visit Zeelandia Beach where they receive an explanation about nature management on the island and about the annual Beach Clean Up of Statia-does. The group then visits a community garden where they talk to farmers about the food supply on St. Eustatius. Because a lot of food is imported, prices are high and there is a shortage of fresh products on the island. Subsequently, the group takes part in a basketball training with students. The visit to St. Eustatius will be concluded with a manifestation in Fort Oranje dedicated to the cultural heritage of St. Eustatius.

Geographically, St. Eustatius is mostly undeveloped volcanic island. Only 11 square miles/ 21 km2, with 2 volcanoes, 21 forts and outposts, a botanical garden, more than a dozen hiking trails in the Quill/Boven National Park, old cemeteries, a restored old town, and a marine park containing some of the best diving in the Caribbean.
